PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Below is a state-by-state list of Dachshund rescues, as well as some that operate nationwide. Please scroll down to find a rescue that operates near you. This list is provided strictly as a reference resource. A rescue’s inclusion on this list is not intended as an endorsement. As with anything else, visitors are expected to do their own research before choosing to work with any organization.
Also, I’d like to note that even though we are Doxie-crazy around here, we strongly encourage the support of any organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of all breeds and mixed breeds. There are millions of dogs waiting in shelters and rescues that deserve a happily-ever-after. There are millions more who will be put down, because no one stepped forward to be their angel. Please consider adopting your next pet from a shelter or rescue near you. For every pet adopted, it saves two animals – the one you adopted, and the one you made room for. Also, if you have the means and the heart, please consider adopting a senior. Seniors have so much love to give, but are often overlooked by adopters and the first to be euthanized (if they are in a kill shelter).
If you can’t adopt, foster…
If you can’t foster, donate…
If you can’t donate, volunteer…
If you can’t volunteer, spread the word…
Until they all have a home.
This list will be updated frequently, as I discover additional rescues. If you know of any to add, please let me know.

Who We Are
Furry Angels Dachshund Rescue (FADR) is a small 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping Dachshunds find their forever homes. The rescue was founded in 2012 and is based in Foster, Rhode Island. FADR is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of the breed we hold so dear: the Dachshund or doxie.
Our dogs come to us from shelters, veterinarians, owner surrender and occasionally other rescue groups. Our service area primarily consists of Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, New York and New Jersey. However, we adopt throughout the New England area and sometimes beyond! We are not affiliated with any other rescue groups or shelters. We are a stand alone group of Dachshund lovers that donate our time, money and love to rescuing the Dachshund breed.
Our Mission is Clear
Furry Angels Dachshund Rescue (FADR) will:
1. Seek to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home as many Dachshunds as is physically and financially possible within the Rhode Island and New England area and sometimes beyond.
2. Work with animal control to educate members of the community about the characteristics and needs of the Dachshund breed.
3. Work with other reputable Dachshund groups to enhance the national rescue initiative and raise awareness about puppy mills and rescue mills. Over 20 years of experience with the Dachshund breed.

Timmy - 2016
After Rehabilitation
Foster, RI
On January 6th, 2015 we rescued 11 of 71 Westminster Breeder Dachshunds from the Massachusetts breeder raid. We are very thankful to have helped these precious babies find their forever homes!
Timmy is one of the dogs that was rescued that day, and has seen a total transformation in his health and happiness since removal from his neglectful breeder. Watching these dogs improve more and more each day under our care, and the care of their foster families makes all of our efforts worthwhile!
We were contacted in 2019 when Sasha was brought into veterinary care by a neglectful owner, requesting she be euthanized. She almost did not make it through her first night from how malnourished and poorly cared for she was, but we restored her to great health and found her a loving home. The work we do here is not always easy, but so rewarding!

Our rescue efforts are made possible by donations from members of our community, like you! Please consider making a donation today.
We are always in need of volunteers, foster homes, and donations. Your assistance saves the lives of these precious dogs, and it would not be possible without your help!

Dachshund Rescue and Pet Services's Adoption Process
About Dachshund Rescue and Pet Services
Since 2004 we have rehomed over 200 dogs. The dogs we adopt out are up to date on all their shots and spayed/neutered. These dogs are our extended family and we like to place them close by. Except for those whose owners are looking for a new home for their dog but do not need to surrender them or friends of our rescue who have taken in dogs that we have agreed to get exposure for, all of our available dogs live with us in our home; all dogs are located in Connecticut.
We also offer boarding, nail trims, non anesthetic tooth scaling, and help with any Dachshund specific behavioral and medical issues.

Support Adoption and Rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?
Why Should You Adopt?
Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.
What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?
When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.
So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
The old woman obediently followed her. In the car, they put her on a stretcher and, having fastened her, was blindfolded. The injection brought the slave to his senses. She was taken out of the car and taken down the corridor.
