Gemini birth chart

Gemini birth chart DEFAULT

The next time you're looking to the stars for validation, you may want to keep your chart ruler in mind because in astrology. Your chart ruler not only heavily plays into your day-to-day horoscope reading, but also on the first impression you're likely to make unto others. "Each astrological sign has a ruling planet—or a planet that is most closely associated with that sign," says astrologer and intuitive healer Rachel Lang. "Your chart ruler is the planet that rules your ascendant or rising sign." (You can use a birth chart generator to figure out this placement if you don't know what that is already.)

"Your rising sign represents your body and your interaction with the outside world," says Lang. "It’s the first impression you give to others and how others likely see you. Your chart ruler informs that first impression. It relates to certain attributes, personality traits, and behaviors."

Below, we explain how to find your chart ruler and how to know where it's most prominently displayed in your life.

How do you find your chart ruler

To determine your chart ruler in astrology, first look below to discover out what planet rules your rising sign, according to Lang:

  • Aries: Mars
  • Taurus: Venus
  • Gemini: Mercury
  • Cancer: Moon
  • Leo: Sun
  • Virgo: Mercury
  • Libra: Venus
  • Scorpio: Pluto (traditional planet: Mars)
  • Sagittarius: Jupiter
  • Capricorn: Saturn
  • Aquarius: Uranus (traditional planet: Saturn)
  • Pisces: Neptune (traditional planet: Jupiter)

But that's just the beginning. To find out where, precisely, your chart ruler is illuminated, you need two additional pieces of information: "When examining your ruling planet, you want to note the condition of that planet, what astrological house and sign it’s in, and what aspects it has to other points in your chart," says Lang. "That will give you clues about how others perceive you, and how you face the world."

To use myself as an example, I'm a Virgo rising. This means Mercury, which rules over technology, travel, and communication, is my chart ruler. My Mercury is in Aries, and it dwells in the seventh house of partnerships. That means a lot of things, but one big takeaway is that relationships will always be of paramount importance to me, and the way I thrive at connecting with people, especially romantically, is with my quick wit. That's going to be a recurring theme in my life, and that's how I enamor myself to others

But that's just one (notably self-indulgent) through-line. Getting a reading from an astrologer, or at least reading what your chart generator says, can provide more context to how your chart ruler plays into your life. One easy way we can see its significance, though, is by noticing movements of your planet in cosmic forecasts. "Each time there’s a transit or progression to your chart ruler, you tend to feel it strongly, as you’re sensitive to the overall influence of that planet—physically, mentally, and emotionally," says Lang. So, Team Virgo rising, you're going to have an extra rough time during Mercury retrograde.

It's understandable if this all sounds dense, so let's start smaller. Below, we unpack what each chart ruler means more broadly..

What your chart ruler in astrology says about you, using your rising sign

1. Mars: Aries Rising

Mars is the planet of our need to individualize and carve a path for ourselves. Assertive, courageous, energetic, you may have a fiery disposition.

The influence of Mars can make you bold in the pursuit of your goals," says Lang. "Others might see you as a force for change. You’re not afraid to take action on behalf of what you care about and love."

2. Venus: Taurus Rising and Libra Rising

Venus is a harmonious planet associated with love (obviously) and self-worth, as well as finances. That means those ruled by it are always seeking beauty and fairness, and grounded by a need for stability.

"You have a unique sense of style and a desire for balance in your life, even if you don’t always experience it," says Lang.

3. Mercury: Virgo Rising and Gemini Rising

"Your mind is always moving, and your body may be, too," says Lang. "You have a lot of energy to exert, and exercise is important. You may even be fidgety. This gives you a mental quickness and even a sharp wit. You crave order and structure, even if you often feel disorganized and spread thin."

4. Moon: Cancer Rising

Think about how the moon regulates the ebb and flow of tides, being simultaneously reflective and receptive. It's a sign of high emotions, so Cancer Rising has a sensitive visage: You may appear to others to be kind and caring.

"Others experience you as a nurturer, but it’s important you tend to yourself as well as others," says Lang. "You are sensitive to the moods of others and may be an empath. The moon gives you an intuitive and creative personality."

5. Sun: Leo Rising

You shine as bright as the sun in every facet of your life (but especially the house the star resides in).

"You appear to others to be charismatic, even if you sometimes shy away from the spotlight," Lang says. "You may find yourself in the center of attention or being asked to step into a leadership role."

6. Jupiter: Sagittarius Rising

Jupiter is the planet of luck and abundance, so consider yourself both fortunate and mostly likely fabulous if that's your chart ruler.

"Jupiter’s the brightest biggest planet in our solar system, and others might experience your optimism and brightness, too," says Lang. "This ruling planet indicates a mix of generosity and openness. It’s the great benefactor, and others notice your charisma, and tend to feel good in your presence.

7. Saturn: Capricorn Rising

Saturn is the planet of our perceived limitations, but it may help to create a life of law and order.

"This ruling planet gives you a strong sense of structure in your life," says Lang. Your bone structure might be distinct, in fact, as Saturn rules bones, teeth, and skin. You’re not afraid of self-discipline."

8. Uranus: Aquarius Rising

"This is the planet of independent thought and being uniquely you," Lang says. "Its influence suggests you may be more free-spirited and have a slight rebellious streak. You may not always want to stand out or be different, but others may see you that way." You can be a thought leader, inventor, or innovator.

9. Neptune: Pisces Rising

Neptune is the planet of mysticism and dreams, imbibing its children with a highly spiritual and creative nature. Neptune also lacks boundaries; that means you need to protect yourself, because you're probably also an empath of sorts.

"You might be more receptive to the moods and emotions of others," says Lang. "Neptune rules Pisces, the water sign, and you can sense you wear your heart on your sleeve."

10. Pluto: Scorpio Rising

Since Scorpio casts a dark and intense presence, it's chart ruler Pluto tends to give someone the impression of being powerful and deep. As such, others fall right in line when it comes to treating you with respect and honoring your boundaries.

"Pluto is the planet of rebirth and regeneration," says Lang. "Its influence suggests you feel a need to understand hidden motivations and truth so you can be a problem-solver for yourself and others. You appear to be deep and thoughtful."

How to Obtain Free Chart

How to get your free natal chart

Not too long ago, obtaining a copy of your natal chart entailed either going to an Astrologer, using a specialized chart service, or studying how-to astrology books. Now, it’s pretty much as simple as pointing your browser to an appropriate website.

A great site for getting a professional, accurate natal chart is Astrodienst. This is the website to visit for a printable birth chart as well as graphs, ephemerides, and more.*

A more straightforward method of finding out your astrology positions is as follows:

What you’ll need:

  • Your Birth Data, which includes your birth day, year, time, and place. If you don’t know your time of birth, you can still determine some basic positions.

Click through to our free natal chart service, and carefully input your birth data in the form.

At the top of the screen you will find a list of planets and the signs they occupy in your chart. For example, it may read Sun Virgo, Moon Aries, etc. You can also find the sign of your Ascendant with this list. A free natal chart report, which interprets a number of factors in the natal chart, is displayed. The interpretations include some of those found on our site.

If You Don’t Have a Birth Time: You can still find out some “basic stats” with only a birth date. I recommend following the steps above, and inputting your birth time as “Time Unknown”. This will give you what Astrologers call a “Noon Chart”. You won’t know your true Ascendant sign, and your Moon sign may not be accurate.

****If you’re unsure of your natal chart positions, you can look them up here: Natal Chart report.

If you prefer we look up your natal chart positions, please send an email:

If you have difficulty determining your natal chart details (that is, the sign of your Sun, Moon, Mercury, and so forth), send Kristen an email at [email protected] with your full birth information (birth date, time, and place) and she will provide you with the positions for free. Be sure to tell her what you’re requesting (Natal Chart Details). This is not a free natal chart, which I offer online here (self-service): our free birth chart report. Instead, it’s a list of the positions in your chart, such as “The Moon is in Aries” or “Mercury is in the fourth house”. An example of this basic position listing is as follows:

However, please be patient if we don’t get to your email the first time around. There are busy times when we might miss an email. This is especially the case with emails sent to any address other than [email protected] Purchases are never necessary to get the basic information you need to learn about your chart.

*A note on Free Chart Calculation Services:

Important Notes About Astrology Software & Charting Services

Please note that when I say accurate above, it is in an almost perfect sense! While we all wish there were no ambiguities when creating charts, ambiguous historical time zones are a reality and no time zone database is entirely correct as a result.

Cafe Astrology offers the Free Report section at which is particularly good for newcomers to astrology but is visited by people of all levels of understanding of astrology. When there are fewer options, it’s easier to learn. It also offers a table and astrological sentences that help students of astrology understand the basic positions in their charts.

I also offer a free chart service at which has more in-depth options for chart calculations (this is my newer site that is fully functional but will fill in with more interpretations as I get to them). This can be used by students of astrology of all levels as well but it is probably better for those people really getting into the subject and wanting to explore additional techniques.

As I’ve done since opening the site in 2002, I recommend as an in-depth chart service for its brilliant options. You can add additional points such as a full range of asteroids at this excellent site. A newer and most excellent chart service site can be found at Astro Seek.

Note that with all astrological software, there are some discrepancies in the time zone atlases which can throw off some charts a little, most evident in the Ascendant and house cusps. It’s frustrating to newcomers since people have all sorts of ideas of which software is accurate and which isn’t, but most don’t realize that it almost always comes down to the problems with the atlas utilities (time zones), all of which have ambiguities. Most professional software programs use the ACS Atlas which is excellent, but of course, has some issues with historical time zones as do all historical time zone databases. My Zodiacal site linked just above currently uses the ACS Atlas, does at the time of this writing, and most of my offline software uses it. It is probably the industry standard, but it’s always good to remember that like any time zone atlas, it is imperfect.

Our free natal chart here uses the Geonames time zone atlas which is also excellent, although some time zones for birthdates before 1970 are inaccurate as well. It’s superior for dates after 1970.

It is for these reasons that I have always encouraged people to write to us to check the software atlas’ accuracy (it’s helpful to have a human take a look!) or to put in some research themselves. Even though for some dates nobody knows for sure whether daylight savings was in effect, it’s useful for people to know about the issue. For example, for some people who have written to me about their charts, I have provided them with the two possible charts in ambiguous cases, which differ by one hour. This way, they can at least work with the two and open their minds to the idea that one isn’t exactly right! So, no matter which software you use, it’s a good idea to check up on the time zone that was in effect at the time of your birth. My suggestion is to use a variety of software programs to see if there are discrepancies for your particular date.

Note that it is typically the time zone atlas issue that produces different results in astrology software. Differences that amount to minutes rather than full degrees (example, one software shows your Ascendant as 3 Aries 22 and another shows it as 3 Aries 15) have to do with the fact that a city spans over a range of latitude-longitude coordinates, and some databases use the city center coordinates while others might use the City Hall address (or equivalent). Neither is more accurate than the other. These differences are entirely negligible–equivalent to a fraction of a minute in birth time which is rarely recorded. Even if we were to use the precise hospital or birthing place coordinates, we’re working with birth times that are usually rounded to the minute if we’re lucky.

We all wonder about these discrepancies when first studying astrology, but as you work with more and more charts, you recognize the fruitlessness of trying to get the minutes of your degree positions precise. Getting the degree side right is possible in most cases.

In fact, the more you work with charts and recognize the imprecision of birth times in general, the many different house system options that different astrologers use, most of which successfully, the multiple charting options, techniques, and methods that each have their merit…you get the idea…the more you focus on those things that truly work for you and your client and recognize the need to keep an open mind.

In case you don’t already know, we help with this: you can write to Kristen at [email protected] with your full birth data and request your Ascendant because it’s the most sensitive point to birth time/time zones. Getting a human to look into things can be helpful!

Your Gemini Zodiac Sign Guide: Everything to Know About the Curious Air Sign

When the sun lights up bright blue skies for even more hours of the day and there's an eager, cheerful, celebratory vibe in the air, you can guess that Gemini season is in full swing. Annually, roughly between May 21 to June 20, the sun moves through the third sign of the zodiac, Gemini, symbolized by the Twins.

In the excitable, four-week lead-up to the Summer Solstice, it's easy to find every excuse to connect and socialize, research and daydream out loud about adventures down the road, and perfect your warm-weather look. This energy is influenced by Gemini, an air sign associated with sharing and communicating, learning, and constantly being on the move. These traits are owed to Gemini's ruling planet, Mercury, which oversees communication, transportation, and technology.

A few curious, expressive, multitasking Twins: Angelina Jolie, Octavia Spencer, Aly Raisman, Amy Schumer, Heidi Klum, Natalie Portman, the Olsen twins, Venus Williams, and Zoe Saldana. These Gemini zodiac sign celebs are astrologically wired to tap into the power of language, human connection, and style to deliver the narratives and messages they find most engaging.

Here, everything you need to know about the communicative, creative, and changeable sign.

Gemini Personality Traits

Those born between May 21 and June 20 can generally conclude that their sun sign is Gemini. (It's not definitive, because the sun moves between signs on different days annually.) Also note that while we tend to refer to ourselves as our sun sign, it's just one detail of a natal chart, which is basically a unique snapshot of the sky when you were born. But it's a detail that helps color your core sense of self, identity, personal style, self-esteem, and confidence.

The chatterbox of the zodiac

Typical sun in Gemini traits include being quick-witted, outgoing, inquisitive, agile, charming, and adaptable. All of these characteristics reflect themes covered by the Third House of Communication, which Gemini rules. The Third House covers all the ways we connect with others, language, technology, early environment and childhood, sibling bonds, community, and short-distance travel.

The information gatherer

Given that messenger Mercury colors Gemini's personality so strongly, the air sign tends to be eager to learn anything and everything, from the latest iOS to the hottest street styles of the season. Data, research, and the top trending news stories are like a go-to sugar fix for Geminis, and they have an appetite for discussing it all with anyone and everyone up for engaging. Social to their core, they need conversation and connection to thrive in just about any situation. Lovers of language, they adore dirty talk just as much as a forever animated group text and hours spent making their mark on social media platforms.

The mutable air sign

Every sign is assigned a quality (cardinal, mutable, or fixed), which explains the sign's basic energy. There's a cardinal, mutable, and fixed sign within every element (fire, earth, air, water). Gemini is the mutable one of the air group, which is just one more reason they're known to be adaptable at best and flighty at worst. They're able to shift and change from moment to moment, which can make them both easy-going and fickle.

Gemini's best personality traits:

Curious, enthusiastic, clever, and friendly, you can count on a Gemini to bring excitement, animated conversation, and fun-loving, lively energy to the table. They're your favorite plus-one to that fashion show, the friend you can rely on to spread the word about your next group hang or to spontaneously join you for whichever ClassPass workout you feel like trying on a whim.

Gemini's worst personality traits:

As they're mercurial and dualistic (they are the Twins, after all), Gemini's changeability earns them a rep for being two-faced, superficial, flaky, and capricious. They'll struggle to make up their minds or say one thing and then contradict themselves a couple of minutes later. They're also masters of using language to make their way in the world, at times talking for the sake of talking. So, their words could lack weight. Their thirst for information and adaptability makes them super-communicators. But they often lack the grounding required for follow-through.

What Gemini Are Like in Love & Bed

Gemini romance style

If a potential partner is blowing up your DMs with flirty, inquisitive chatting, is all about hopping on a Zoom call at a moment's notice, and possibly hasn't committed to anything beyond the next text they're gonna send (and maybe not even that), you might be seeing someone born under the influence of airy, linguistically acrobatic Gemini energy. The air sign loves connecting mentally with anyone they're relating to, and that absolutely translates to their love lives. So does their breezy and noncommittal vibe. They're all about exploring a wide variety of options, flirting through endless conversation, and then, maybe once their attention has been captured by someone who keeps them stimulated mentally, they'll consider settling down.

Gemini's ultimate date night is one that will fuel their curiosity. Think group set-ups where they can converse and connect with different personalities, activities that allow them to soak up new info and then discuss what they learned (like a class or a museum tour), or a buzz-worthy experience they can report back on via Instagram Story (like a movie premiere or restaurant opening).

Gemini sexual style

Gemini's chatty, always shifting personality is front and center in the bedroom. They're vocal, often wanting to share their desires out loud. They might also be into making or hearing sexy noises (e.g. moaning, breathing in their ear). And their affinity for communication is very much a part of their preferred form of foreplay. They'll consider long catch-ups, inside jokes, or analysis of a favorite band or politician the lead-up to a steamy sex session. As they get more comfortable, they might enjoy long-winded sexting sessions and dirty talk. Given that their ruling planet is cerebral Mercury, don't be surprised if they seem more satisfied by sexy talk than sex itself. Still, once you're finally one-on-one, they'll be eager to please and interested in experimentation, wanting to try a new technique they researched or heard about from a friend, or proposing a variety of position changes.

Gemini Compatibility

Wondering how Gemini matches up with your sign as a friend, a lover, a colleague, or in terms of any other one-on-one relationship? Here, their go-to companions and most problematic pairings:

Most compatible with Gemini:

Signs that share the same element tend to be the most simpatico (e.g. two water signs, like Scorpio and Cancer). This is especially the case for two air signs, both of whom lead with mental energy.

Air is also traditionally compatible with fire, because the two elements complement one another. The two signs share certain attributes, like being free-spirited, independent, speedy, and social. That said, a Gemini often hits it off with similarly social, flirtatious Libra, people-loving, intellectual Aquarius, or dynamic, fun-loving Leo.

Least compatible with Gemini:

As with most of the zodiac signs, opposites can attract — and Gemini and Sagittarius often connect on their shared desire to take to the sky and go on an impromptu adventure, experiencing and connecting with the world. But because both are mutable and naturally changeable, they could struggle to commit and feel grounded in their bond.

Gemini is also square (the most challenging angle that can exist between two signs) detail-oriented earth sign Virgo and empathic water sign Pisces. Unless they have other positive aspects in their natal charts, Gemini can respect these two other mutable signs for their ability to switch up their approach based on the way the wind is blowing, but emotionally, they're too changeable to solidify a connection.

What If You Have Gemini Elsewhere in Your Chart?

As mentioned previously, the sun sign is one of many aspects of a natal chart. When you were born, the moon and all the planets in our solar system were in one of the 12 signs and a particular position — all of which help to inform your personality and areas of your life.

Here's what it means if Gemini shows up in any of the main areas of your chart:

Gemini Moon

The moon, which spends about two to three days in each sign, influences your emotions and intuition. If it was in Gemini at the time of your birth, you have a tendency to intellectualize your emotions and, in a way, for you, talking is synonymous with feeling. You're happiest when you feel like you have the green light to express what's in your heart in an airy, changeable, free-spirited way.

Gemini Mercury

Mercury, which spends about two to three weeks in a sign, shapes your communication style. If it was in Gemini when you were born, you're extremely curious, energized, and perhaps scattered in your thinking and speaking. Self-expression is very much your jam, given that Mercury is at home in the sign of the Twins, and therefore, the energy of the planet and the sign are in sync. You're constantly craving information input and share it just as readily as you receive it. You might put this placement to use professionally, pursuing a career in communication or technology.

Gemini Venus

Venus, which remains in a sign for about three to five weeks, influences how you behave in relationships and how you attract others. If you were born with the planet of love and beauty in Gemini, you use words and language as your go-to instrument for expressing how you feel. You're wary of getting "tied down," as that can feel counter to your mercurial nature. But you'll eagerly pursue and stay interested in someone who stokes your appetite for cerebral stimulation, either with their adventurous spirit, social prowess, or sharp-witted conversational skills. And when it comes to your personal style, you're likely known as a trendsetter who's particular about cultivating an IG-worthy look.

Gemini Mars

Mars, which remains in a sign for six or seven weeks, affects your energy, strength, sexual style, and how you experience courage. If you were born while the fiery, dynamic, fighter planet was in mutable, airy Gemini, communication and action are synonymous in your opinion. You prefer talking through your next move before diving in, and as a born multitasker, you prefer having an array of engaging to-dos to tackle at any given time.

Gemini Ascendant (or Rising)

Your ascendant or rising sign influences how you present yourself to the world. As a Gemini ascendant, you come off as social, playful and even impish, chatty, and quick-witted. You might give off the vibe that you lead with your head over your heart.

Gemini Personality Traits: All the secrets you need to know

Geminis are volatile beings that are inquisitive, intelligent, and great thinkers. They tend to remain in one location. They are highly competent who can quickly persuade others to accept their own thoughts and beliefs. The Geminins' reluctance to commit to one subject or one individual, on the other hand, might give them the impression of crassness and a propensity to glide over essential aspects in life.
The Gemini personality is a lot of fun, but it does have flaws, just like any other sign. Geminis are flexible, extroverted, and clever, and there's never a boring moment while they're around. Their flaws include indecisiveness, impulsivity, unreliability, and nosiness, therefore don't disclose a Gemini your innermost deepest fears. Geminis are constantly willing to try new things, which makes them great lovers. They're highly enthusiastic and entertaining, making them great friends. However, because of their impatience, individuals may be afraid or hesitant to engage. In relationships, Geminis seek open and loyal communication. Geminis want a partner that is intellectually compatible and eager to have fun. Geminis are highly loyal when they discover the proper mate. Geminis are highly sociable people who spend a lot of time with their friends and relatives.
Geminis seek for efficient leadership in their business connections. If there is a lack of coordination, Geminis are prone to losing contact with long-distance companions. Family is very important to Geminis, yet it can also be a source of stress for them. Their urge to be carefree might be hampered by family obligations. Because of their inquiring spirit, flexibility, and frankness, Geminis make excellent craftsmen, authors, and broadcasters. Geminis are known for their inventive ideas and enthusiasm in the workplace. Geminis like discovering and telling intriguing stories. All of the aforementioned Gemini characteristics also make them excellent salesmen.
Geminis have excellent interpersonal skills and excel at clever wordplay, making it simple for them to win others over. Geminis are excellent managers as a result of this. Their zeal motivates their colleagues, and their intellect earns them the admiration of their co-workers. Geminis are not good at focusing on deep tasks since they feel discouraged quickly due to their impulsive behaviour. Geminis aren't the best financiers or economists. Geminis function best when they can move from task to task without losing enthusiasm. Geminis might be too methodical because to their brilliance, which can lead to inexperience.
They may also feel worried or frightened while making critical decisions, such as relocating or changing jobs.

Chart gemini birth

Mankind has been using astrology for millennia as a way of telling and recording time. The Bible’s Old and New Testament, as well as the Qur’an, reference lunar phases to mark certain months and dates in the year — a practice also used by Ancient Chinese, Maya and South Asian civilisations.

Meanwhile, what may be the oldest drawing of a birth chart was found in a cave in Croatia, dating back more than 2,000 years, which suggests an early interest in harnessing astrology as a tool for unlocking knowledge about the individual. In modern times, we use birth charts as a way of gaining a deeper understanding of the self, our relationship with others, and our place in the world.

What is an astrology birth chart?

An astrological birth chart maps the planetary alignment at the exact moment you were born, so no two charts are ever the same. There are 12 signs of the zodiac — Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces — and 12 houses in a chart (1st House, 2nd House and so on).

Each zodiac sign has a different vibe and each house represents a different aspect and area of our lives (education, family, love, health, work). As well as the sun and the moon, there are 10 planets that astrologers take into account to understand a person’s psyche: Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, North Node and South Node (more on those later).

GEMINI in Astrology: What are Gemini-s like?

Humans have pondered the mysteries of the universe for millennia, tracking the sun’s vibrant motion, the moon’s beguiling cycle, and the swirl of boundless stars overhead. Astrology and astronomy were inextricably linked for thousands of years, and although these two fields have been disentangled over time, the mystical teachings of the cosmos still guide us today.

The study of astrology is expansive, complex, and transformative. Despite the nuances, the most fundamental principle of astrology centers on the 12 familiar star signs of the zodiac. Over the centuries, each sign has developed its own associations — including myths, animals, and colors — and its own characteristics. Every sign boasts an individual approach to life, complete with dynamic strengths and frustrating weaknesses.

The sun sign is the cosmic launching pad for both amateur and professional astrologers. Your sun sign is determined by your date of birth and represents your core personality, sense of self, basic preferences, and ways in which you move through the world. This astrological placement sheds light on your intrinsic gifts, as well as your blind spots. Joys, wishes, flaws, and fears are what make a sun sign special and unique. When combined with the other planets in your chart, it creates the distinctive profile that serves as your astrological fingerprint.

No sign is perfect on its own. The diversity of the zodiac completes the astrological wheel.

Ready to take your astrological knowledge to the next level? There are four triplicities and quadruplicities that further categorize the 12 signs. If these words sound like gibberish, don’t fret: The concepts are easy. "Triplicities" is astrospeak for elements, which include fire (the fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius), earth (the earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn), air (the air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius), and water (the water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces). Generally speaking, fire signs are passionate and exuberant, earth signs are practical and grounded, air signs are intellectual and curious, and water signs are intuitive and emotional.

Quadruplicities are the signs’ qualities. Cardinal signs, which include Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn, kick off new seasons. They are excellent at taking action and starting initiatives. Fixed signs, which include Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius, occur in the middle of seasons. They are the steady, consistent forces that maintain movement. Each season concludes with a mutable sign — Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces — that possesses effortless fluidity well-suited to change and transformation. As we continue layering astrological concepts, we uncover a rich and complex practice that delivers insight into our truest selves.

Gemini (astrology)

Third astrological sign of the zodiac

This article is about the astrological sign. For the constellation, see Gemini (constellation).

Gemini (♊︎) (JEM-in-eye, Latin for "twins") is the third astrological sign in the zodiac, originating from the constellation of Gemini. Under the tropical zodiac, the sun transits this sign between about May 21 to June 21. Under the sidereal zodiac, the sun transits this sign from about June 16 to July 16. Gemini is represented by the twins, Castor and Pollux,[4] known as the Dioscuri in Greek mythology. It is a positive, mutable sign. Gemini is associated with the Yang polarity (masculine) in the Yin Yang ancient Chinese concept.[5]

In Babylonian astronomy, the stars Pollux and Castor were known as the Great Twins. Their names were Lugal-irra and Meslamta-ea, meaning "The Mighty King" and "The One who has arisen from the Underworld". Both names are titles of Nergal, a major Babylonian god of plague and pestilence, who was king of the underworld.

In Greek mythology, Gemini is associated with the myth of Castor and Pollux. Pollux was the son of Zeus, who seduced Leda, while Castor was the son of Tyndareus, the king of Sparta and Leda's husband. When Castor died, because he was a mortal, Pollux begged his father Zeus to give Castor immortality, which was done through uniting them together in the heavens.
