BYRDSTOWN, Tenn. (March 14, 2016) – Local angler Robert Reagan of Byrdstown, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 20 pounds, 10 ounces, Saturday to win the first FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) Music City Division tournament of 2016 on Dale Hollow Lake. For his victory, Reagan took home $7,155.
Reagan said he caught his winning stringer out of mid-lake chunk rock scattered throughout 20 different areas. He said he was able to catch four bass fairly quickly using a homemade jig rigged with a green-pumpkin Zoom Super Speed Craw.
“I caught them shallow in 3 to 4 feet of water,” said Reagan, who earned his second career win in FLW competition. “After that, my goal was to find the largest kicker possible.”
Around noon, Reagan said the jig bite slowed down so he began targeting channel banks within his areas using an umbrella rig with SXE Shad-colored Roboworm EZ Shad swimbaits.
“The bass were near the surface and bit as soon as the rig hit the water,” said Reagan. “I was only able to get two in the boat, but they were decent-sized fish.
“My biggest bass came on the umbrella rig and that put me on top,” Reagan went on to say. “I don’t think I would’ve won without it.”
The top 10 boaters finished the tournament in:
1st: Robert Reagan, Byrdstown, Tenn., five bass, 20-10, $5,155 + $2,000 Ranger Cup Bonus
2nd: Jonathan Green, East Bernstadt, Ky., five bass, 19-6, $2,078

(Mar 12, 2018 - Byrdstown, TN)
Boater Rod Huff of Monterey, Tennessee, caught five bass Saturday weighing a total of 19 pounds, 5 ounces, to take top honors at the 2018 T-H Marine FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) Music Division season opener on Dale Hollow Lake. Huff earned $6,586 for his win.
“I basically fished the last deep water before spawning flats,” said Huff, who logged his first career win in FLW competition. “The water was stained, and I probably had 30 to 35 different stops – all mid-lake.”
Huff said he rotated between a variety of lures during the tournament, but caught his limit using a ½-ounce green-pumpkin-colored Zorro Baits Booza Bug Jig and a Zorro Baits Swim Jig with green-pumpkin Strike King Rage Craw trailers.
“The areas had rocks, and most of the fish were caught in 2 to 8 feet of water,” said Huff. “Sometimes I casted all the way to the bank and worked the lure back, and sometimes I made short casts.”
Huff said he caught seven keepers throughout the day, culling out two fish to complete his 19-pound limit.
The top 10 boaters finished the tournament in:
1st: Rod Huff, Monterey, Tenn., five bass, 19-5, $4,586 + $2,000 Ranger Cup Bonus
2nd: Robert Reagan, Byrdstown, Tenn., five bass, 16-9, $1,693
3rd: Dylan Wright, Murfreesboro, Tenn., five bass, 16-1, $1,129

Entry fees have increased slightly to $300 per qualifier for boaters and $150 per qualifier for co-anglers. Super tournament entry fees remain the same at $350 for boaters and $175 for co-anglers. The popular “Win and You are In” format that automatically qualifies the winners from each of the 96 one-day qualifying tournaments and 24 two-day super tournaments to the Regional Championships along with the top 45 boaters and co-anglers from each division based on point standings remains unchanged. In the BFL, anglers are never out of contention for advancement to a no-entry-fee championship.
“FLW was founded on providing affordable, close-to-home weekend tournaments for bass anglers,” said T-H Marine BFL tournament director Daniel Fennel. “BFL anglers are the heart and soul of FLW, and we take great pride in providing them with the best possible tournaments along with a clear pathway for advancement to the sport’s next levels – namely the Costa FLW Series and the FLW Tour. Nowhere else do anglers have the opportunity to fish five close-to-home tournaments with a shot at advancing to not just one, but three of the sport’s biggest championships, the All-American, FLW Series Championship and FLW Cup, where a BFL angler can win a total of $520,000.”

The BFL is the nation’s largest and most rewarding weekend bass-fishing circuit. Nobody offers better rewards and media coverage to local anglers for a lower cost to compete. The top 45 boaters and co-anglers from each division and tournament winners receive priority entry into the 2020 Costa FLW Series while All-American champions may advance directly to the FLW Tour, the world’s most competitive professional bass-fishing circuit.

FLW Bass Fishing League season finale coming to Sumner County

The 2018 T-H Marine FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) season will conclude the weekend of Sept. 29-30 for Music City Division anglers with a two-day Super Tournament on Old Hickory Lake.
The tournament is hosted by the Sumner County Convention and Visitors Bureau at the Bulls Creek Access, 200 Odoms Bend Road in Gallatin.
Up to 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $11,000 and $4,500 respectively in the two-day tournament.
Takeoff each day will take place at Bulls Creek Access at 7 a.m. Saturday’s weigh-in will also be at Bulls Creek Access, and will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday’s final weigh-in will be held at Bass Pro Shops, located at 323 Opry Mills Drive in Nashville, Tennessee, and will begin at 4 p.m.
Old Hickory Lake is expected to host a good weekend of bass fishing for BFL competitors in this 2018 Music City Division season finale.
In September 2017, mid- and upper-lake secondary points produced the winning fish for tournament champion Rocco Simeri. He primarily fished a 5/16-ounce Texas Craw-colored Jewel Bait Finesse Jig with a Watermelon Red-colored Zoom Z Craw Jr. in what he described as pre- and postspawn staging areas.
According to recent reports from Mid-South Hunting and Fishing News, flipping wood cover with a jig or soft-plastic worm may also produce some notable bites, especially near log jams on shallow flats off of the main river. A two-day cumulative catch of 10 bass in the 22- to 24-pound range should be enough to win this late-September BFL derby.
The 2018 BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 128 tournaments throughout the season, five qualifying events in each division. The top 45 boaters and co-anglers from each division, along with the five winners of the qualifying events, will advance to one of six regional tournaments where they are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American. The 2019 BFL All-American will be held May 30-June 1 on the Potomac River in Marbury, Maryland. Top performers in the BFL can move up to the Costa FLW Series or even the FLW Tour.

MLF releases 2022 BFL information

Major League Fishing announced today the schedule, rules, payouts and entry dates for the 2022 Bass Fishing League (BFLs), the only circuit offering weekend anglers a clear path to the Toyota Series, Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit and ultimately the Bass Pro Tour.
The BFLs anglers to fish close to home with opportunities to advance to the prestigious All-American and Toyota Series Championships for a shot at winning top boater awards of $120,000 and $235,000, respectively, including lucrative Phoenix MLF bonuses.
Each qualifying tournament offers a top boater award of up to $13,000, including a $7,000 Phoenix MLF Bonus, and a top co-angler award of $3,000. Top awards jump up to $16,000 for boaters, including a $7,000 Phoenix MLF bonus, and $4,500 for co-anglers in super-tournaments. Entry fees remain unchanged for qualifying and super-tournaments – $200 per boater and $100 per co-angler for one-day qualifying tournaments and $300 per boater and $150 per co-angler for two-day super-tournaments. Six Regionals will also have a $300 per boater and $150 per co-angler entry fee in 2022, resulting in enhanced payouts of more than 200 percent per tournament with the top 40 boaters and co-anglers receiving checks – up from 24 in previous seasons.
Boaters in each regional compete for a $67,000 top award, including a Phoenix 819 Pro with 200-hp Mercury and $10,000 plus a $7,000 Phoenix MLF bonus for qualified anglers. Co-anglers in each regional compete for a $50,000 Phoenix 819 Pro with 200-hp Mercury. Additionally, the highest finishing boater from each division in each regional receives a $1,000 bonus and the highest finishing co-angler from each division receives a $500 bonus – you only have to beat 49 anglers from your division to win big.
“We pride ourselves on continuing to provide the absolute best tournaments for the lowest cost of participation available anywhere,” said MLF Senior Director of Tournament Operations Daniel Fennel. “Our team has put together a great schedule that will uphold that tradition, providing a competitive outlet for weekend bass anglers with multiple advancement opportunities for those looking to launch professional careers. We’ve had a fantastic 2021 season and are excited to carry that momentum into 2022.”
The Phoenix MLF Bonus contingency award will also continue for the 2022 season. The Phoenix MLF Bonus enhances payouts from $500 to $7,000 for registered Phoenix boat owners in every qualifier, super-tournament and regional, an additional $20,000 in the All-American, and $35,000 in the Toyota Series Championship.
The top 45 boaters and co-anglers, plus the five tournament winners in each division, advance to a regional.
Enter all five events in a division, fish at least two and automatically advance to the Wild Card if you weren’t pre-qualified for a regional.
The Wild Card offers a $13,000 top boater award, including Phoenix MLF Bonus, and a top co-angler award of $3,000. Entry fees are $200 for boaters and $100 for co-anglers.
The Top 6 boaters and co-anglers from each regional and the Wild Card advance to the 2023 All-American.
The highest-finishing boater and co-angler from each regional and the Wild Card at the All-American advance to the Toyota Series Championship – anglers only need to beat five anglers from their regional to advance.
The 2022 All-American and Toyota Series Championship will be nationally televised, offering BFL anglers unprecedented media exposure.
