What Wheels Fit: Hyundai Genesis Coupe

- So it was a couple years ago when I was in college and I was sitting in my second Excel spreadsheet class. And I&#;m sitting there thinking to myself, I am never going to (bleep) use this in my entire life. And I look back at it now and I&#;m like, oh my god I was so wrong. And when I&#;m talking about spreadsheets I can only mean one thing. What&#;s going on guys, Gels from Fitment Industries, and we are back today with another What Wheels Fits. Today we&#;re going to be talking about the Hyundai Genesis Coupe and we&#;re gonna do both generations. And of course before we just jump right into it, I gotta give you guys a disclaimer, that what I&#;m about to say, the Fitment ranges that I&#;m about to tell you are, at the very minimum, have to have your fenders rolled or at least pulled, in some cases probably not, but just know that for a lot of these the guys are running rolled fenders and pulled fenders or even removed fender liners, anything, they have to modify their fenders, just know that that probably might be the case for you. So let&#;s just dive right into it with the typical Fitment range for the first and second generation Hyundai Genesis Coupe. So you&#;re looking at diameters of 17 to 22 inch diameters. Widths from seven to eight and a half, and offsets from +32 to + Now again those are the recommended Fitment ranges but (bleep) just push get the (bleep) out of here just, just (grunts). That&#;s not what we&#;re about. Fitment, it&#;s literally in our name. So just one quick thing to note on these cars is that for the first and second generations a lot of people are running more of a staggered setup than a square setup. And what a staggered setup means is that they&#;re running a wider wheel in the back and a more narrow wheel up front. And number one, these cars are rear wheel drive and number two, they just have a thick like with two C&#;s booty on the back so people are can fit more of a wider tire on the back versus the front. So jumping right into the first generation we see diameters of 18, 19, and 20 inches as far as wheel diameter. So first we&#;re gonna go over some square setups. So for an 18 inch wheel with a square setup you&#;re looking at sizes usually around 18x+30, for a nearly flush setup. When you get into the +15, +12&#;s, even the +10&#;s for a more aggressive Fitment and that&#;s where you start seeing more of the poke Fitment come out. When as soon as you dump below that +20 offset, you start to get a little more aggressive, the wheel starts poking outside the car a little more and then, well yeah. We also see people running an 18x10+30 for more of a flush setup and even an 18x10+20, so typically you&#;re going to see that 30 to 20 as far as the offsets go. Now even though the 19 inch diameters are the most common from what we see in our gallery on these cars, not a lot of people, actually pretty much nobody, is running a 19 inch square setup for that matter on the first generations, or even the second generation. So like anything bigger than an 18, people are running a staggered setup. This is just how it goes, I&#;m sorry. If you are running a 19 square setup, I&#;m sorry, you&#;re just like one of the thousands of people. Sorry. So on that note let&#;s just go right into the staggered setups. So for an 18 inch staggered setup, we&#;re looking at a front width of with a rear width of So for a staggered setup for an 18 inch wheel, you&#;re looking at a wide up front and a in the back. Now that is the most common staggered setup for an 18 inch wheel on these cars. Now of course you can go up from that or down from that, so I&#;ll go ahead and list a couple more examples. We&#;ll throw some up on the screen, with the specs, to show you guys what they look like. We see people running an 18x+22 up front with an 18x+22 in the rear. 18x+15 in the front, 18x+15 in the rear, and that gets you more of a poke Fitment rather than a flush Fitment. And then moving on to a 19 inch staggered setups, some quick examples, you&#;re looking at a 19x+15 up front, 19x10+20 in the rear. 19x+22 in the front, 19x+22 in the rear. 19x+22 up front, and a 19x11+22 in the rear. And a 19x10+5 up front, and a 19x11+8 in the rear. So you can fit a wide variety of not only widths, but offsets on these cars. It&#;s just a matter of adjusting your camber, depending on what kind of suspension you have and the amount of modification you do to your fenders. And of course we didn&#;t forget about the 20 inch staggered setup. So we&#;re looking at 20x9+30 up front, 20x+40 in the rear. 20x9+20 in the front, 20x10+25 in the rear. 20x+20 up front, and 20x+25 in the rear. So again, we see the bigger wheels being more common on these cars versus the 18 inch. The 19&#;s, like I said, are the most common. You even see more 20 inches than you see 18 inches. It&#;s just because they fit good on those cars. If you&#;re looking for more of like a stance setup, versus like a track setup, you&#;re gonna be going with more of a 19 or 20 inch wheels on these cars. So moving on to the second generation of the Genesis Coupe, we see the 18 inch wheel just get, just get the, like we did with our regular Fitment. We just get the (bleep) out of here! Just, ugh! The 18&#;s, they&#;re gone! It&#;s 19&#;s and 20&#;s now. We&#;re playing big boy games. So in this generation we see that that square setup is basically even more non-existent than it was in the first generations. Everybody is running a staggered setup on these wheels. Because like I said, with the first generation, with the 18 inch, we saw more people running square setups. But with the 19&#;s and 20&#;s, we didn&#;t see that. It was all staggered. So that makes sense if we got rid of the 18 inches for the second generations, that we&#;re only gonna see mostly staggered setups. Now as far as sizes and offsets go, they&#;ve mostly stayed the same in the front, but the rears have widened out just a little bit because the body styling has changed on these cars a little bit from the first to second generation. People have decided to go a little more aggressive with it and it just fills up that wheel well a little more than the first generation. So if you&#;re looking at running some 19&#;s on this generation car you&#;re looking at 19x+22 up front, 19x+22 in the rear. We have other examples of a +20 up front, +20 in the rear. +22 in the front, 11+25 in the rear. If you wanna rock some 20&#;s on there you&#;re looking at 20x9+25 in the front, +20 in the rear. 9+18 in the front, 10x11+20 in the rear. This list goes on and on and on. And as far as suspension setups go, you&#;re looking at like a lot of people are running Eibach springs, time-lowering springs, or tane lowering springs, tane coil-overs, BC racing coil-overs which we now have on the website, by the way, fitmentindustries.com, go ahead and check it out. So something that&#;s sort of mentioned on these cars is that with like you know like, most cars like your Subarus or your Evo&#;s, or like your DSM&#;s, there&#;s like a specific wheel that people go with. Like your RPF1&#;s versus like your XXR &#;s for your second gen DSM&#;s. Like why, there&#;s other wheels that fit those cars guys. The Genesis Coupe has like a plethora of different wheels that people run on them. People get really creative with the wheels that they put on these things. So of course you have your RPF1&#;s, but you have everything from those to your Weds, to your Varrstoen&#;s. We even have AodHan DS&#;s showing up on a lot of these. Rohana, Fordstar, Velgen&#;s, to get those bigger sizes for these cars. It&#;s just there&#;s so many options out there. Just be mindful when you are picking out a set of wheels for your car, if you do have a Genesis Coupe. That if you have like an Rspec, or an Ultimate edition that come with the Brembo brakes, to make sure that the wheels that you&#;re getting are designed for a big brake clearance. You wanna make sure that the spokes of your wheel aren&#;t smashing in to your brake caliber. Because you buy wheels, and then you&#;re really excited for your wheels, and then they show up, and then you go to put them on your car, and your heart is broken because they don&#;t fit on your car, ask me how I know. So for the most part, a 19x in the front, and a 19x10 or a with a 25 to 20 offset is gonna be like the setup that almost everybody goes with. Like that&#;s your happy medium. Of course you have people running like 19x11 like with a zero offset on these cars, but those are people like running with like the air suspension and some pretty crazy camber. Like you can fit those on these cars, just know that, there&#;s a lot more extensive modifications that goes into that. So if you&#;re looking to see what other kind of wheels fit on these cars, go to our gallery, it&#;s a, the Genesis Coupe is a very popular car in our gallery. You can punch in the exact specs that you wanna see on these vehicles, most likely it&#;ll be on there. So head on over to fitmentindustries.com, head over to our gallery, punch in Genesis Coupe, punch in the wheel specs that you&#;re looking for, and not only will you see how that looks like on those cars, but it also gives you a reference to what tire sizes people are running, and what kind of suspension people are running. So that&#;s gonna wrap it up for this episode of What Wheels Fits. Go ahead and comment down below on what cars you guys would like to see us do next because I just love going through sheets and sheets in Excel, going through data, I mean. But no seriously, let us know what you guys want us to cover next, we&#;d be more than happy to do it. We always read the comments, so we take your guy&#;s comments into consideration when we do these videos. Additional Information

Do 19x +20 wheels on /35 tires fit on a Hyundai Genesis Coupe RWD with Stance Suspension Stock?

Yes they do! This Hyundai Genesis Coupe RWD is running Varrstoen Es1 19x wheels, Pirelli P-zero /35 tires with Stance Suspension Stock suspension, and needs Fenders Pulled and Rolled and has No rubbing or scrubbing. As you can see from the pics this wheel and tire combo can be done!** With this Hyundai Genesis Coupe, the stance is Nearly Flush. Also remember spacers impact fitment, this ride is running None in front and None in rear.

** We always recommend finding a couple vehicles that have achieved this fitment, as this information is solely based on the owner of this vehicle. Although we review every gallery page, there are so many variables we cannot verify every fitment is possible or accurate. However, if all the other kids are doing it, IT MUST FIT!!

June 25,

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there’s no denying that these cars look badass with the right mods and fitment setup.

The Genesis Coupe’s thicc body style and RWD has made its way into every segment of the car industry—from motorsports to the show scene alike—making them versatile and fun to drive, despite having less than ideal power figures for some.

Naturally, these cars run staggered setups, but since its design also favors some sideways driving every now and then, coilovers are popular for track applications as well. Beware that no matter the suspension you choose, most Genesis Coupe’s have rolled or pulled fenders to help dial in the perfect fitment.

This Genesis Coupe Wheel Fitment Guide will cover setups for daily drivers (and maybe some track days), a more serious track setup, and a stance setup.

Quick History of The Genesis Coupe

The Genesis Coupe was first released in to the USDM (market) but made its initial appearance in the KDM (market) during .

This platform was derived from the base Genesis sedan with a lil added Hyundai sporty flair.

Hyundai released this sporty RWD coupe as a direct competitor to the Mustang, Z, the GT86, and even the Camaro.

There were, and still are, some criticisms of the Genesis coupe, but the power is decent, the suspension is fairly stiff, and it looks good with a few minor modifications.

The first generation Genesis Coupe denoted by the chassis code “BK1” spans the years to (worldwide). In , the Genesis coupe got a facelift and the new chassis code was “BK2”.

The biggest changes that the L turbo Genesis coupe undertook were a new twin-scroll turbocharger and a larger intercooler along with some noticeable cosmetic upgrades.

The L V6 had quite a few upgraded internals. Hyundai also made some minor interior upgrades across both the L turbo and L.

Additionally, the Genesis coupe did have some involvement in the motorsport community, most notably with Formula Drift, Time Attack events, and a few other road racing events throughout the US.

Genesis Coupe Daily Driving Wheel Fitment

Daily driving a Genesis coupe is fun. In fact, the Genesis Coupe is perfect for an exciting daily driving experience. Here's why.

You get to play around with RWD, there’s a 6-speed manual transmission option, power is decent for daily driving, it’s comfortable with heaps of creature-comforts, and, well, it’s a coupe so it instantly makes the drive feel even more sporty.

 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE T R-SPEC

Before we get into the wheel and tire specs, most daily driving Genesis coupes choose to ride on lowering springs or coilovers.

These suspension options offer better handling and the lowered look that suits this body style incredibly well.

Due to the wide stance of the Genesis coupe, these cars often run staggered setups despite not having a standard staggered wheel and tire setup from the factory.

While square setups are easy and usually the go-to for daily drivers, filling the rear wheel well is easily achievable with a wider wheel and tire.

 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE TRACK

So, starting off with a solid staggered setup, we have a 18x +35mm with a /25 tire in the front with a 18x +30mm /45 tire in the back

A tire on a ” wide wheel is going to give you a slightly stretched look, but it’s nothing like your typical stance tire stretch.

You could size up to or if you prefer the look better, but beware because you may run into some rubbing issues depending on how lowered you are.

The sidewall profile is going to be a little taller in the rear with a 45 sidewall compared to a 25 sidewall in the front. This is going to fill that rear wheel well much better than a 25 sidewall would.

This setup will give you no rubbing or scrubbing issues and rolling the fenders is not necessary which is a plus.

Genesis Coupe Track/Drifting Wheel Fitment

So, you autocross or drift your Genesis coupe a lil bit. That’s sick.

The fitment specs for this application are under the assumption that you’re lowered on adjustable coilovers for better handling AND you're racing an R Spec since it's the best track-oriented Genesis coupe.

An autocross setup, even on a naturally wide-bodied coupe like the Genesis coupe, is going to run a smaller wheel—in this case, an inch wheel.

Remember that you’ll need big brake calibrated wheels to clear your Brembos too.

A good autocross setup is a balance between getting enough grip for the application without lugging around too much unsprung weight with a big wheel and tire.

Despite the Genesis coupe being a fun daily and weekend track car, this platform is incredibly popular in the show scene. Just throw some Air Lift suspension on, flashy wheels, all the carbon fiber pieces you can find, and you’re good to go.

Again, these specs are based on the assumption that you’re going to run air suspension.

Final Thoughts on The Genesis Coupe

The Genesis coupe doesn’t get enough love, but has still seen some great action on the autocross and drifting track, the stance scene, and your fun daily cruiser.

Yes, there might be better options out there for its class, but its performance resume isn’t half bad.

It's just often overlooked due to bigger and more mainstream platforms like the 86 and Z.
