Ring Doorbells is one of the best options for you to hang on the door of your home or the office. It is just the perfect thing that you can possibly get as there is not much that you will have to worry about it at all with the Ring Doorbells.

It comes pre-equipped with all the advanced features such as two-way communication, Wi-Fi connectivity, and more including the cam and video recording options that will ensure you have the right peace of mind while leaving your home or office.

It does not only have a camera and a mic, but you also get to enjoy sensors on the Ring Doorbells. These doorbells come with motion sensors and contact sensors as well so you can know if there was some movement at the door, or someone tried to touch your doorbell.

The sensors are pretty accurate and they are least likely to cause any sort of errors at all. However, at times you might be facing the “Sensor Tampered” error on the Ring app, and that is pretty hard to get rid of. If you are facing such an error message on your Ring Application as well, here is how you can get it sorted out.

How to Fix Ring Sensor Tampered?

1. Reset

The first thing that you will need to ensure is that there is no such bug or error that is pretty common on electrical devices and that might be the reason behind you having to face this problem. So, you will need to make sure that you are removing the cover from your Ring Device and then carefully removing the batteries as well.

Once you get the batteries removed, you will need to locate the Tamer button that would be near the antennas, and you just have to make sure that you are pressing it right. You will need to keep it pressed and hold that while you insert the battery again.

The LED light will flash while you are holding the button, and you will need to keep the button pressed until the light stops flashing.

In some models, the light will not stop flashing, and instead, it will get solid. Once the light is solid, or it turns off, you can then leave the button and then put the cover back on your device. This will help you out in resetting the Ring device and once you connect it back with the mobile application, the error is most likely to be gone.

2. Re-install the Application

Another thing that you will need to be careful about is the application and there might be some sort of problem with the application that can cause you to have this problem. So, you will need to make sure that you are uninstalling the application from your phone or any other device that you are using for connectivity with the Ring Doorbell.

After that, you will need to restart the phone or the other device that you were using once and then go to the relevant app store.

Here you will be able to find the latest version of the Ring Application and you will need to download and install it on the device that you are using. This way you will be able to make sure that if there are any bugs or errors that you might be having on your device are cleared out for good.

Not only that, but it will also be ensuring that there are no problems with the application version and with the latest version of the Ring application installed, the error is most likely to be gone permanently if it was caused due to some issue on the software or some error.

3. Contact Support

Ring also has a support department that is pretty good at sorting all such issues for you. All you will need to do is make sure that you reach out to support and state your problem with the details of your doorbell model and the app version that you are using. They are going to diagnose the setup thoroughly in order to find the issue that is causing you to have this problem. Not only that, but they are also going to help you in getting the error solved.

Door sensor ring

If you have the Ring Alarm system, you probably have a few door sensors that came with it. These sensors let you know when a door or window has been opened, which can trigger the alarm when armed. However, if they’re not working or connecting to your alarm system, you may want to reset them to ensure they work again.

Below, we’ll cover exactly how to reset different generations of Ring door sensors, as well as when you should reset and what the reset does.

How to Factory Reset First-Generation Ring Door Sensor

Follow these steps to reset a first-generation Ring contact sensor:

  1. Remove the cover from the device.
  2. Remove the battery from the device.
  3. Press and hold the tamper button that’s found near the antenna.
  4. While holding the tamper button, insert the battery.
  5. Hold the LED button until the LED light stops flashing. You might see a solid light or no light.
  6. Put the cover back on the device.

How to Factory Reset Second-Generation Ring Door Sensor

If you own the second-generation Ring sensor, you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Remove the cover from the device.
  2. Press and hold the reset button. You will need a paperclip or the pinhole tool that came with the sensor if you still have it.
  3. Wait until the LED light flashes green.
  4. Continue holding down the reset button until the LED light turns red.
  5. Put the cover back on the device.

How Do I Know Which Generation of Sensors I Own?

The easiest way to know which generation of sensors you own is by looking at their visual appearance. Both are white and have a magnet and a sensor end.

However, in comparison to the first generation, the second generation:

  • Is more square in shape
  • Is much thinner
  • Has the Ring logo on the bottom left corner of the sensor side
  • Has a small circle on the top left side of the sensor side

If you have the first generation, your sensor will look:

  • Much thicker
  • Long and rectangular
  • Has the Ring logo in the middle of the sensor side

If you aren’t sure which sensor you own, you can check out the troubleshooting guides for the first generation and second generation to see photos.

You can also refer to your user manual if you still have it, as it will tell you which one you have. Keep in mind that sensors can pair with base stations and Ring devices that are in different generations than them. So, always check the generation of the sensor itself and don’t go by the other devices you own.

What Will Resetting a Ring Door Sensor Do?

The reset button on a Ring sensor will restore all the settings to their original out-of-the-box settings; this means you will need to reconnect them to your Ring app and Alarm.

Basically, it will be like you just bought a new sensor and are setting it up for the first time. Since setting up sensors in the app and the house can take some time, it’s important that you don’t reset the device unless you have to.

When is a Reset Necessary for Ring Door Sensors?

If you are having trouble getting the sensor to connect, you can try simply removing the battery and inserting it before resetting. Battery removal will only restart the device and keep your settings.

However, sometimes a factory reset is necessary, such as in these cases:

  • You have already tried restarting the sensor, and it didn’t help the problem.
  • You already disconnected it and reconnected it and are still experiencing issues.
  • You have called Ring Support, and they recommend you do a factory reset.
  • You are experiencing ongoing connectivity issues.
  • You are selling or giving away the sensor to a new user.

If a factory reset does not fix the issue you’re having, you might need to contact Ring support again.

Resetting your Ring door sensor is a great way to fix connectivity issues and other problems. While the first- and second-generation reset processes are slightly different, both involve holding the reset button until you see the LED light change or stop flashing. Remember to always hold the button until you see the change in light and place the cover back on when you’re done.
